Dragons return to winning ways with a 72 vs 65 vs Westminster Warriors
The Bradford Dragons made the long trip down the M1 for their second meeting of the year with the Westminster Warriors, a talented and athletic team who represent a threat for forty minutes of any game. Seconds after the opening tip Westminster forced a Dragons turnover with their aggressive defence and opened the scoring with an easy lay-up to go up 2-0.
The Dragons managed to settle down and play some good aggressive defence of their own in what was shaping up to be an 'up and down' fast paced high energy game. In a well officiated game in which both teams were allowed to play the defence was aggressive but proved an exciting game for the small home team crowd to watch. With nothing more than two points seperating the teams at the end of the first quarter the momentum belonged to the home team with a 18 - 16 point lead.
The Dragons started the second quarter the sharper of the two teams as they applied further pressure up the court and forced Westminster to commit a number of turnovers which led to easy points for the Dragons. The quarter was capped off with an emphatic put-back dunk from American forward Dan Foley which took the Dragons out to a 34 - 28 lead.
The third quarter was more of the same for the Dragons as they pushed their lead out to 51 - 41 with aggressive defence, good ball movement and all-round good team play.
The final quarter was a high scoring affair for both teams as Westminster came out pressing and running in an attempt to make up the deficit and although they managed to outscore the Dragons 24-21 in the quarter the final score saw the Dragons return home with their twelveth win of the EBL Division 1 season, 72-65. Top scorer for the Dragons was D. Foley with 23 points and 10 rebounds, R. Sulcs contributed with 12 points and A. Navarro 6 points.
