Bradford Dragons can’t break Magic’s spell.

21/12/2015

Manchester Magic visited the Dragons Den on Saturday evening and delivered Bradford Dragons a lesson in what they need to aspire to, if they are to compete at the top end of the National Basketball League division one. Manchester travelled back over the Pennines having inflicted a heavy defeat on their hosts, 74-97.

The two sides had already met twice earlier this season, in both the National Trophy and the National Cup, with Manchester finishing both games as convincing winners.  However, Bradford’s form has improved recently and they were hopeful of giving a better showing against the Lancastrians this time around.

Bradford opened the scoring and for the first couple of minutes it looked as though the two teams were evenly matched. But a couple of minutes was as long as the equality lasted, as Manchester started to show why they are currently sat at the top of the league table, whilst unfortunately the Dragons equally displayed the defensive frailties that have caused them to struggle so far this season.

Thunder Strikes dampen the Dragons Fire

14/12/2015

Bradford Dragons made the five hundred and fifty mile round trip to Worthing Thunder on Saturday, but came away empty handed, losing 84-80 against the former BBL side.

Bradford started the game strongly, building up a seven-point lead (5-12) by the mid-point of the opening quarter. However, the host team restricted them to a mere two points in the rest of the period and the first quarter ended with Bradford on the wrong side of a 20-14 score line.

Worthing increased their lead to twelve points (32-20) in the second period of play, before the Dragons shifted up a gear and pulled the game back to within three (39-36) at the half time buzzer.

Following the break, it was the visitors that again piled on the pressure, building up to a strong fifteen-point lead (69-54) with only thirty seconds of the period remaining. A two-point jump shot from Adria Rodriguez Vinas, followed up by a couple of free throws from Nick Moore, pulled the gap back to eleven (69-58) going into the final break.

Dragons sent spinning in home thriller

The Dragons Den was home to a spectacular display of basketball action on Saturday evening, as Bradford Dragons hosted the Lancashire Spinners in the National Basketball League.  The Dragons finished the game on the wrong side of a 96-100 score line, however neither side deserved to go away empty handed from a game which could have swung either way.

The Dragons have shown vast improvement over recent weeks and went into the game on the back of a double winning weekend the previous week. Meanwhile, the Spinners had also had a mixed start to their first season in the top flight of English basketball, with a record of four wins and four defeats.

The game started at blistering pace, with both sides sinking three-point-shot after three point shot, almost at will. But, at the end of a high scoring first quarter, the Spinners had the slight edge, leading by a single basket, 34-36.
