Eurocamp pays dividends for Dragons

Bradford Dragons are pleased to announce three new additions to their 2014/15 roster.

Tamás Szlávik and Maciek Kościuk both came to the attention of Dragons head coach, Chris Mellor, during this summer’s basketball Eurocamp, which was hosted by Dragons for their eleventh successive year, during early August.
27 year old forward, Szlávik, who collected the MVP (Most Valuable Player) award at the camp, previously played his basketball in the Hungarian second division with Veszprēm KK. He also won the second division title, in 2009, with Sopron SMAFC.  Coach Mellor said of Szlávik, “Tamás will give us a presence both inside on the boards and also on the perimeter. He is a smart player with good all round, fundamental skills.”

Maciek (known as Magic), formerly competed with Gimbasket Wroclaw, in the second division of Poland’s national league. He is a young point guard who is expected to progress well with the Dragons, as he grow in confidence. He is an extremely quick player who will provide a spark from the bench, both offensively and defensively.  He will combine playing for the Dragons with his studies at Bradford University, where he will be reading for his BSc in International Business and Management.

Meanwhile, the Dragons have also snapped up another guard in ex-Leeds Carnegie (now renamed Leeds Force) player, Rafi Saipe. Not included in the Leeds roster, for their first season in the British Basketball League, Saipe has moved the short distance to join up with Chris Mellor’s team, in Bradford.

The Dragons’ coach is very familiar with Saipe’s playing ability and said, “Rafi is a player that not only handles the ball well, but is also just as capable shooting and coming off the screens.  He reads the game well and, when he is back up to full fitness, will be a tenacious defender. I think this is a good situation for him at Bradford.”

All three players will be in action for the Dragons this coming weekend in the National Trophy game against Derby Trailblazers, on Saturday evening. Tip off at the Dragons Den, Bradford College Sports Hall, Trinity Road is at 6:15pm and tickets are priced at £5 adults, £2.50 concessions and £10 for a family ticket (2 adults, 2 children).
