Bradford Dragons are pleased to confirm the signing of experienced British Basketball League (BBL) player Albert Margai for the 2019/20 season. The 31-year-old, 6 0’’ point guard, who’s no stranger to West Yorkshire basketball, started his career at the now-defunct Leeds Force in 2009. Margai spent two seasons with Leeds before making the move to BBL outfit Surrey Scorchers. The London born point guard was a regular for the then Guilford Heat in 2011/12, but it was the following season under a newly rebranded Surrey Heat where he averaged 7.4 points per game in the BBL. |
After a spell away from the hardwood, Margai is revitalised and ready for the upcoming season with the Dragons, “I'm extremely thankful and privileged to feel wanted by the Bradford Dragons. Over the years I've had many encounters with Bradford, and I've been an admirer from afar at their fan base, culture, never say die attitude and professionalism.
He added, “I'm absolutely thrilled to be entering the upcoming season with the Dragons, everything just feels right and I'm raring to go. I'm immensely confident in our group of players and coaching staff so I'm eager to go to war with these guys.”
Coach Mellor was also enthusiastic about the latest addition to his squad, “Albert signing for us this season is a huge positive. He has natural leadership qualities in his character and his competitive instincts especially defensively, which give us something I feel we’ve lacked on a consistent basis at times.
“His experience in both the BBL and Division 1 will also be a massive help with some of our younger players as we navigate through the season.”
Margai will be available for the Dragons opening game of the season at the Thames Valley Cavaliers on Saturday, September 28 in the NBL 1.
