Bradford Dragons succumbed to a 100-85 overtime loss against West Yorkshire rivals Leeds Carnegie on Saturday. An injury plagued Dragons side overcame an 18 point second-half deficit but ran out of steam during overtime.

Bradford now fall to 10 wins 5 losses but they retain third spot thanks to a cushion earned with the last victory.

The game opened relatively even with both sides seeming to be feeling the pressure of the big crowd and scale of the game. Long 3-pointers by Nathan Ashley and Dan Foley helped the home side win the first quarter 23-21. 

Leeds began the second quarter with endeavor hitting the Dragons with a 13-4 run. Bradford's offence continued to dry up as Carnegie extended their lead and finished the half leading 31-45.

At the beginning of the second half Dragons looked to dent the lead. An impressive Carl Pearson took the fight to Leeds with consecutive drives to the basket as the Dragons slashed the Leeds lead to just five.

Bradford threw every ounce of energy at Leeds and their effort began to bare fruit. After a 3-pointer by talisman Dan Foley tied Dragons the game 73-73, capping an 18-point comeback.

Neither side grabbed the game in regulation so the match was sent into overtime 78-78. Dragon’s injuries began to affect the team as they struggled in overtime. Centre Chris McGrew and power forward Vance Silcott were both sitting out. This allowed Carnegie to dictate play inside the paint.

The game ended 105-85. Carl Pearson led Bradford with 26 points and Rowell Graham-Bell scored the same for Leeds

Elsewhere for Dragons, Dragons 2 men lost heavily at home 43 – 93 to a rampant Bradford Lithuanians in their latest Leeds premier league game, Dragons U16s travelled to beat Leeds Carnegie U16 seconds 86 - 78 in their EBL U16 north east conference game, Dragons U15 travelled to Gateshead Phoenix to comfortably win 78 - 46 in their EBL U15 north east fixture and Dragons U13 stayed perfect on the season to emphatically defeat visitors Manchester Magic seconds 106 – 56 at home in their EBL U13 north game to stay top of the league

The next Dragons 1 EBL division 1 home game is against Bristol Academy Flyers on Saturday 15/2/14 at 6.15pm in the Dragons Den in the sports hall, Bradford College, Trinity Road, Bradford BD5 0JE

Admission is £5 for adults, £2.50 for under 18s, students, concessions etc and £10 for a family ticket [2 adults + 2 children].
