Bradford Dragons will face off against local West Yorkshire rivals Leeds Carnegie in VCARS.CO.UK Division One action on Saturday.
The teams have met 3 times already this season with Carnegie having the better of the results with 2 wins to Dragons 1. This is the last scheduled meeting of the teams this season so bragging rights are on the line.
Dragons snapped their four game losing streak last Saturday with an impressive 96-78 win over Tees Valley Mohawks. Whilst Leeds Carnegie managed to overcome a tough encounter with Team Northumbria on Wednesday to secure the win. Carnegie are fighting for a top four finish whilst Bradford are looking to secure a playoff place.
Bradford Dragons Head Coach Chris Mellor knows what to expect from the local derby saying “We’ve had some great games against Carnegie going back to our Division 3 days. They’ve always been fiercely contested defensive dogfights with points hard to come by which I think not only shows the competitive nature of myself and Matt Newby but also that the players take great pride in this particular match up. I’ve always said I feel there is genuine respect for both teams every time we take to the floor and I know it means a lot to the fans”
The game is scheduled for a 6:15pm tip off at Bradford College Sports Hall, Trinity Road, BD5 0JE. With a capacity crowd expected make sure you get down early to secure your courtside seat.
Elsewhere for Bradford, Dragons Women will face Northamptonshire Titans in the National Trophy Final, as they look to secure they’re first ever national trophy. The game takes place at Braunstone Leisure Centre in Leicester with the game tipping off at 1:15pm. Dragons II are also in action playing away to Newcastle Under Lyme College Knights in VCARS.CO.UK Division Four.
The junior programme is also set for a busy weekend with the Under 18 Men travelling to the North East to play Gateshead Tornadoes whilst the under 16 Boys welcome Killamarsh Derbyshire Arrows to Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College. The Under 14 Boys are also in local derby action with a game against Leeds Carnegie.
