‘Dragons Ground the High Flying Rockets’

The Bradford Dragons put on an impressive performance at the weekend to secure their second victory of the regular season campaign. The Reading Rockets came to West Yorkshire with high hopes of winning two from two as they played Leeds Carnegie on the Saturday before travelling further down the M62 to the ‘Dragons Den’, home of the fiery Bradford Dragons. Having completed their first leg of the West Yorkshire visit, Reading arrived in Bradford confident and ready to play. The Dragons got out to an impressive start, led by American centre Chris McGrew as he took charge close to the basket scoring at will. In what was an impressive first half for the Dragons with scoring contributions from everyone on the floor including a big three-point basket from Ryan Holmes the Dragons went into the half leading 38-28.

The second half saw the Dragons hoof and poof harder as they looked to extend their lead with an up-tempo, fast breaking style of basketball. Richard Sulcs, recently transferred back to the Dragons from East Midlands side the Leicester Warriors showed his ability to lead the break as he poured in 14 fast break points.
The Rockets launched a comeback fight, pressing hard and forcing the Dragons to turn the ball over in the third quarter but it just wasn’t enough. After a fast flowing game with plenty of Dragon baskets the home team secured their second victory and moved to fifth place in the league table with a convincing 84 – 65 score line. Dan Foley led all scorers with 19 points, Chris McGrew 15 and Richard Sulcs 14.

Next Dragons 1 home game is National League fixture against Westminster Warriors on Saturday 16/11/13, tip off 6.15pm in the Dragons Den, Trinity Green sports hall, Bradford College, Trinity Road, Bradford BD5 0JE.
