Thunder strikes in the Dragons Den during another third quarter meltdown.

14/3/2016

The saying goes that lightening doesn’t strike twice. That may be so, but in the case of Bradford Dragons the same cannot be said about thunder, Worthing Thunder to be precise.

The South Coasters visited the Dragons Den for Bradford’s final home game of the 2015/16 season, on Saturday evening, inflicting defeat on Bradford for the second time this season.  Another third quarter meltdown for the Bradford Dragons resulted in the Thunder returning home with the win, 78-87.

The game got off to a delayed start, due to problems with the electronic scoreboards for the second home game in a row.  On this occasion, the technical difficulties were unable to be resolved and following lengthy discussions between the referees and the two team coaches it was decided to proceed with the game using more archaic methods of time and score keeping.

Dragons display defiant determination in double defeat.

Bradford Dragons were on the road for a double header weekend, losing out 88-82 in a fiercely fought War of the Roses clash against Lancashire Spinners on Saturday evening, followed by a similarly close defeat, 74-68, at Reading Rockets the following day.

The Dragons went into the game on Saturday on the back of last weekend’s victory against Tees Valley Mohawks, whereas their hosts at the Castle Hill Leisure Centre, in Bury, were hoping to avoid their first three game losing streak of the season. A strong following had made the trip across the Pennines to support Bradford, and at times their enthusiastic backing drowned out the noise from the large home contingent.

First blood went the way of the Dragons, through a Ricky Fetske jump shot and although both teams battled hard, the white side of the Pennines built their lead up to nine points three quarters of the way into the first period. However, the Spinners fought their way back into contention and at the first scheduled break in play the deficit was reduced to two points, with the Dragons ahead 22-24.
