Bradford Dragons travelled to Newcastle’s Sport Central for the second of their three National Trophy pool games. This weekend’s opponents, Team Northumbria, took the spoils with a convincing 80-66 victory in front of their home crowd, leaving Bradford with little other than Yorkshire pride to play for in their final Trophy game, next weekend.

Bradford just held the edge at the end of the first quarter, leading by a single basket, 17-19, but it didn’t take long before the home side took control of the game. Only five minutes into the second period and they had turned the scores around to lead by five, 30-25, a lead which they extended to twelve points (45-33) by the time the two sides went back to their locker rooms for the half time interval. For the second successive weekend Bradford faced an uphill struggle in the second half of the game.

Bradford Dragons introduced their supporters to the final two pieces in their 2016/17 roster on Tuesday evening.

Nigerian born, 6’4” Forward, Semi Eboigbe, who also has British dual nationality, brings a wealth of experience to the Dragons’ Den, sporting a resume which includes, amongst others, Westfalen Munstangs (Germany), Lemvig BK (Denmark), Haga Haninge (Sweden), Stockholm Basketball (Sweden) and Mersey Tigers of the British Basketball League.

“I’m looking forward to working with the coach and the team,” stated Eboigbe. “I like the coaches hunger for the game, he’s a workaholic! His desire to win is what I’m looking for. I need to be pushed and I believe that Coach Chris (Mellor) will push this team to success. The management team are all very approachable, down to earth people, so again I’m looking forward to working with them. My teammates have welcomed and encouraged me from day one, so really I couldn’t hope for more. Both on and off the court the lads in this team are a ‘unit’. I haven’t played in England since 2013, but I’m happy to be back and hope to be winning trophies with this team. Personally, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else right now but Bradford Dragons – BRING ON THE SEASON!”

Coach Mellor, who is widely respected as one of the top coaches in the British game, added “Semi brings some experience and toughness and he does a lot of things that don’t necessarily show on the stats sheet sometimes but make a team function effectively. He understands the game and it’s a good signing for us.”

Bradford Dragons Basketball Club have announced the signings of two American’s for their upcoming National Basketball League Division One season. Power forward, Ricky Fetske returns to the Dragons’ line up for another season, whilst young point guard Marcus Gooding also joins the roster for the new season.

Fetske first played for the Dragons during the 2012/13 season and has since spent spells at both Team Northumbria and BBL side, Leeds Force. However, Fetske, who is a popular figure with the Bradford supporters, returned to the Dragons Den in November last year and has now committed himself to a third season in Bradford’s colours.

“I’m excited to back with the Bradford Dragons,” says Fetske. “Coach Mellor has been working tirelessly to put us in the best position to succeed. Preseason is underway and I am pleased with how focussed the team is towards realising our goal of contending for silverware this year. I am looking forward to entertaining the Dragons’ Den with some great performances this year, so make sure you come out and show your support!”

Head coach, Chris Mellor added, “Ricky had a stop start season last year with injury and visa problems and now those issues are behind him I think we will see more consistency in his game. He’s come back in good shape and is very motivated to do well.”
