Over six hundred children, aged between three and eleven years old, took part in the event and were joined by the Dragons 6’8” American power forward, Ricky Fetske, along with the club’s Chairman, Steve Valentine. Children were sponsored to take three shots at the basket, with the funds raised being evenly split between the school and the Bradford Dragons Community Foundation.
As an incentive for the children, all participants that raised £5 or more qualified to receive either a bronze, silver or gold medal, dependent upon how many baskets they managed to score from their three attempts. In addition to this, children that raised £30 also received an authentic Basketball England branded basketball, whilst the child that raised the most money also received a limited-edition Bradford Dragons varsity jacket.
Mr Carter added, “It was a fantastic day and all the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience. To raise so much money into the bargain was absolutely amazing.”
Following the success of the event, the Dragons are now hoping to roll the event out to other schools and youth organisations within the region. Anybody requiring further information should contact the club via info@bradforddragons.co.uk.
