Bradford Dragons have today announced that 24 year old shooting guard, Jermayne Laing, has re-signed for the 2014/15 season.

Laing originally joined the Dragons at the start of the 2013/14 campaign, having previously played for local rivals Leeds Carnegie, who are currently competing in the British Basketball League.

Laing has experience of playing basketball in the United States, where he attended prep school and also attended the 22ft Basketball Academy, in Southern France.

Having enjoyed a successful season with the Dragons, last term, head coach, Chris Mellor was keen to include Laing in the 2014/15 roster.  Mellor said, “It’s great to have Jermayne back. He had a great first season for us, last year. His speed and quickness gives us more options now in transition and attacking the basket, whilst defensively he was one of our best perimeter players, who can guard multiple positions.”

Laing will combine playing for the Dragons with his studies at Leeds Beckett University, where he is reading for a degree in Youth and Community Development.

Meanwhile, the Dragons have also resigned 22 year old Ryan Holmes, whose playing career originally started with the Dragons under 18’s team.  From there, he spent two years learning his craft at Burnley College’s Basketball Academy, whilst also playing for Burnley College Blaze in Basketball England’s National Division 4.

Coach Mellor signed Holmes to the Dragons first team squad for the 2013/14 season, however a serious knee ligament injury forced him to sit out most of the campaign.

Now back for a second season with the Dragons, the 6 foot 3 inch shooting guard is fit and raring to go – and is dedicated to helping the team achieve even more success this time around.

Mellor said (of Holmes), “Ryan is much improved from when he first came to us. He’s really worked on his strength and physical conditioning and he is an excellent three point shooter. He will continue to improve, I feel, because of his work ethic and toughness.”

Both players will be in action at the Dragons Den this weekend as the Dragon’s take on Tees Valley Mohawks in the National Trophy on Saturday Evening (6:15pm). This will be followed, on Sunday afternoon (4:15pm) by a National Cup second round tie against Killamarsh Derbyshire Arrows, again at the Dragons Den, Bradford College Sports Hall, Trinity Rd, Bradford, BD5 0JE.
